Late Archbishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Joseph Mittathany
Archbishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Joseph Mittathany is no more. He breathed his last on July 11, 2022 at Imphal. Born in Kalikavu, Kottyam on July 12th 1931, Archbp. Mittathany was ordained a priest on April 23, 1959, and became the Asst. Parish Priest of Borphukhri under Tezpur Diocese and remained in that position till 1966. From 1966 - 1969, he was the Parish Priest of Tetenbari Parish. He became the Bishop of Tezpur on June 26, 1969, and after eleven years, he was made the Bishop of Imphal Diocese on April 21, 1980. As Archbishop of Imphal, Joseph Mittathany remained President of North East Regional Bishops Council from 1996 - 2006, the year he retired from office. He was known to be an able administrator, who zelously worked for growth of Catholic Church in Manipur.
