The North East Catholic Committee of Delhi (NECCOD) accorded a warm welcome to their new members who had joined them in the Delhi NCR region with spiritual and a social gathering worthy of the colours mix of the region they come from. This was the 33rd occasion NECCOD welcomed their new members into their fold. The function was held on September 7, 2025, at the Millennium Hall of St. Xavier’s Sr. Secondary School in Civil Lines, New Delhi.

Going by the tradition, the programme began with the Holy Eucharist presided over by Most Rev Anil J.T. Couto, Archbishop of Delhi, and concelebrated by Fr. Vijay Baretto, Chaplain of NECCOD, along with several other priests. At the very outset, Archbishop Couto announced that Rev. Fr. Albert Leivon, a priest from the Archdiocese of Imphal who had come to Delhi to pursue his PHD at the Delhi University, has been posted as Assistant Parish Priest of Rosary church. In his homily, the archbishop told the participants not to begin a project without the intention to see it through, advocating for building one's life with Christ as the sure foundation that will lead to eternal life.

The Holy Eucharist was followed by a glittering social function, where the beautiful culture and traditions of the North East region were exhibited, among others. Speaking to the impressive gathering, Mr Lalduhoma, Chief Minister of Mizoram, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, applauded NECCOD for providing spiritual guidance and community support to the Catholic community who made the NCR their homes for over three decades. While underlining the NECCOD’s growth to a strong 2,000-plus members as a testament to its unity and commitment, the Chief Minister urged the student community to uphold honesty, hard work, humility, and respect. He also noted some of the significant contributions of the Catholic Church in Mizoram and the region and mentioned how St. Paul’s High School in Mizoram paved the way for education in that state.

Significantly, the President of NECCOD, Mr BK Angam, was bereaved by the untimely demise of his wife barely a few days before the scheduled date of the function.  Despite this setback, the organising committee ensured the programme was a grand success, while fondly remembering one of their departed members.
