October 14, 2025:

Sr Rose Paite, an MSMHC nun from Mizoram, received the prestigious National Award from the Catholic Mental Health Ministry (CMHM) at the World Mental Health Day Conference in Kerala. The prestigious award was handed over to the recipient by Archbishop Thomas Tharayil in recognition of her unstinting service to promoting mental health and grassroots wellness for twenty-five years, particularly among the women and children of the marginalised communities in the Northeast.  Her name was picked by a distinguished panel of church leaders and mental health experts from across India who were also present during the handing-over ceremony.

Speaking to NECARF Review, Sr Rose said she was humbled by the gesture and the recognition of the Catholic Church. She said she would like to believe that it is God who has been watching over what she has been doing all these years; therefore, she is further encouraged to continue her mission. She thanked her congregation for allowing her the space to do what she thought was necessary and expressed her profound gratitude to all her superiors and sister colleagues who were instrumental in helping her serve the people.

This award is named after Mrs Janamma Thomas Muthoot, whose compassionate service touched Karnataka, Kerala, and beyond. Therefore, the award celebrates Sr Rose’s embodiment of Christian love through her tireless work. People of the Northeast and the Church in the region have reasons to be proud of this achievement.
