Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh
As per a communiqué issued by the Diocesan Administrator of Shillong Archdiocese Rev. Father John Madur on December 28, 2020, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, appointed Bishop Victor Lyngdoh as the Archbishop of Shillong. Most Rev. Victor Lyngdoh (64) was the Bishop of Jowai prior to his new assignment. He was born on January 14 1956, at Wahlang Village, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya. He entered the St. Paul’s Seminary in Shillong pursuing his studies at St. Gabriel’s Higher Secondary School. Thereafter he completed his Philosophy from Christ King College in Shillong, subsequently spending his Regency at St. Francis Xavier Church, Mawsynram. He was ordained a Priest on January 25 1987, and after 19 years of priesthood, he was elevated as Bishop of Nongstoin in 2006 and in 2016, took over as Bishop of Jowai. The Archdiocese of Shillong has remained without a regular Shepherd since the tragic demise of Archbishop Dominic Jalla in October 2019. The appointment of Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh has been welcomed by the Catholic community of Shillong
